Holiday Cheer 2015

On Friday December 11th needy families received Santa support at the Travis County Community Center at Oak Hill. There was face painting for the kids, crafts to make holiday ornaments and Santa came in person, distributing stuffed animals and holiday cheer! The Travis County Sheriff’s office sponsored 35 families through Brown Santa, led by Mary Rodriquez and her amazing team of volunteers. Every year, Sherriff Greg Hamilton supports County residents through the Brown Santa program at five different sites.

Additionally at Oak Hill, the SW Family Fellowship Church members donated presents for 94 children in 39 families and their youth group wrapped many gifts. The Travis County West Rural Advisory Committee provided HEB gift cards for a holiday dinner for the 34 families not eligible for Brown Santa. Girl Scout troops 1917 and 1746 wrapped presents as well as many community volunteers including our Senior Congregant Meal participants on Tuesday December 8th.

Our event would not be possible without the help of Constable Hernandez and her Precinct 3 deputies as well as volunteers from Goodwill of Central Texas, the Oak Hill Rotary and the amazing staff of the Community Center. A special thank you to Charles Stone from Constable Hernandez’s office for making Santa’s visit successful!

Travis County Community Center at Oak Hill wishes everyone Happy Holidays, a Merry Christmas and a peaceful New Year in 2016!

Travis County Community Center at Oak Hill staff joined Constable Sally Hernandez at the first annual Precinct 3 National Night out this month, on Tuesday October 6th. With beautiful weather, many families and residents came and got information, popcorn, or toured the services of our Precinct 3 location. Information was available from Bike Austin, Boy Scouts Capitol Area Council, CLASP, Costco, Girl Scouts of Central Texas, HEB Oak Hill, Missing School Matters, Oak Hill Association of Neighborhoods, Parking Mobility, Travis County Sheriff’s Office, Travis County Community Center, Walmart, and a couple of partners connected with our Senior Fraud Prevention Program: Adult Protective Services, Capital Area Council of Governments Area Agency on Aging, and Wells Fargo. There were fire trucks and first responders providing tours and fun was had by all. Many thanks to Constable Hernandez for her leadership of this event and the hotdogs and nachos! We hope to see you all next year on the first Tuesday evening in October.

Oak Hill 2015 Back to School Bash

Oak Hill event

Here are a few pictures of the Oak Hill 2015 Back to School Bash which the SW Family Fellowship hosted with Travis County Community Center in Oak Hill, here in precinct 3.

This year 151 children in 49 low income families were provided back to school supplies through the generous sponsorship of SW Family Fellowship members. Each child got a backpack with customized school shoes, undergarments, and a gift card for a back to school haircut. CommUnity Care staff from the Oak Hill Clinic provided free back to school physicals and health screenings to attendees. A+ Federal Credit Union staffed a table with financial literacy information and brought their mascot, AJ a big green apple to interact with the kids.

Donations from Whole Foods, the West Rural Travis County Advisory Committee, Bird’s Barbershop, Great Clips, and Amanzi party rentals made the event a success. There were games and fun for all kids including a bubble pit, water slides, and a fajita dinner provided by SW Family Fellowship. Families came for their backpacks and stayed to enjoy the community fellowship. Volunteers from SW Family Fellowship, Linda Lee Stuart from Constable Sally Hernandez’s office, Charity Cortez and Alice Samilpa-Hernandez from HHS/VS and many others helped make this a success.

Thank you to all who made this a great success and we hope to see you next year!
