Santa Celebration - December

santa 2017 volunteers

Thanks to all our volunteers and sponsors for making the Sunday December 10th Santa Celebration amazing and fun for all who attended. 76 families participated, receiving gifts and food from either Brown Santa supported by Travis County Sheriff Sally Hernandez’s office or the SW Family Fellowship church and Travis County West Rural Advisory Committee. Each child from zero all the way through high school got two presents and food for a holiday meal. The SW Family Fellowship angel tree really came through this year providing gifts for 85 children and youth in 31 families.

Constable Stacy Suit’s team was on hand to help deliver gifts to family vehicles and provide good cheer as were most of the staff of the HHS Travis County Community Center at Oak Hill. As always the SW Austin Rotary Club helped families pick out a new or like-new coat from over 200 available.

This year the Oak Hill United Methodist church helped make sure the festivities were amazing providing refreshments, custom crafts and ornament making for kids, a bouncy house, and Spanish & English story time while families waited for delivery. Oak Hill United Methodist also sponsored Santa Claus’s visit – providing the support of Youth Pastor Matt Villegas and teddy bears so that every single child got to sit with Santa Claus and pick out a bear or two of their choice. Additionally Oak Hill United Methodist Church Preschool Sponsored a pajama drive for 114 of the children participating.

Back to School Bash - August

back to school backpacks

Thanks to all our volunteers and sponsors for helping make the 2017 Oak Hill Back to School Bash a great success Friday August 12th. 132 children in 36 low income families were provided backpacks stuffed with customized new shoes, socks and underwear thanks to the sponsorship of SW Family Fellowship church members, Whole Foods, Deep Eddy Vodka and the West Rural Travis County Advisory Committee. An additional 15 youth got a school physical allowing them to participate in sports or band at local middle and high schools. As always Southwest Family Fellowship’s hosting of this event made the day; providing a delicious dinner, inflatable water slides and a face painter for the children to enjoy during the event. Families came for the backpacks and stayed to eat, have fud and enjoy the community fellowship.

Incredible volunteer help came from the Church, Southwest Austin (Oak Hill) Rotary Club, and Constable Stacy Suits’ office as well as staff from the Travis County Community Center and student volunteers. These volunteers treat each family with the dignity and respect they deserve and made each person feel a valued member of our community. With our community partners from A+ Federal Credit Union, the fantastic mobile health team from CommUnity Care Health Centers, and Constable Stacy Suits’ Office, we provided valuable services to the families at our event. The A+ Credit Union team provided information about financial literacy and helped students open savings accounts with an A+ sponsored opening deposit. CommUnity Care’s Mobile health team provided youth school physicals so the students can participate in athletics and band this year. Along with his team, Constable Suits provided helpful information about child safety and the prevention of missing children. In addition, their team worked to build bridges between their law enforcement office and the community, an invaluable service.

Thank you to all our volunteers!
