Burial Service

burial

The Travis County Burial Program provides assistance for those individuals and families who have no resources to cover the cost of a burial or cremation.

Legal Next of Kin can receive a written application by fax or mail by calling the Burial Program

Burial staff must collect information to prove the decedents income, resources and the income and resources of the legal next of kin, as defined in Texas Health and Safety Code.., Section 711.002, "Disposition of Remains, Duty to Inter".

All applicants will be given time to collect required documentation and information.  Income for the household is counted including the decedent's income only if he/she resided with the applicant at the time of death.  If the next of kin did not live with the decedent then the deceased's income is considered a resource.  Income eligibility is the federal poverty level, and there is a limit to resources.

Please call the Burial office to set an appointment or ask any questions.
