STAR Flight Assists with Greenbelt Fire
AUSTIN (KXAN) - Firefighters used a combined air and ground attack to control a fire in the Barton Creek Greenbelt
Fire crews set up in the Westlake Heights subdivision off Highway 360. While ground teams worked in the sometimes dense brush of the greenbelt, a STAR Flight helicopter dumped buckets of water in support.
Some neighbors said it was the worst fire they've seen in decades.
Crews managed to contain the fire to a half acre in a little more than an hour. Crews remained in place putting down hot spots until a little after 4 p.m.
No word yet on what sparked the fire.
Land Rescue - Feb 22
Feb 21st 2010 - STAR Flight was requested to Emma Long Park for an injured mountain bike rider in a remote section of the park. STAR Flight as well as Austin FD and Austin/Travis County EMS conducted a search for the victim who was located on a heavy tree covered ridge. A rescuer was inserted by hoist to evaluate to patient and treat the patient. A decision was made to hoist the victim and rescuer out of the park and land at a nearby landing zone. The patient would there be turned over to A/TCEMS with non-life threatening injuries.
