YOU MUST OBTAIN A RESTITUTION FORM FROM A PROSECUTOR BEFORE SENDING A PAYMENT.

Misdemeanor Criminal Restitution and Returned Check Restitution is currently only being accepted by mail:

Travis County Attorney Office
ATTN: Check Division
P.O. Box 1748
Austin, TX 78767

The only forms of payment accepted are Cashier’s Check, Money Order or Attorney Check from an IOLTA or Trust Account. Any payments made out to the victim will be returned. All money orders need to be filled out completely and signed by the purchaser. If the money order is not signed, it will be returned to sender. Exact cash will be accepted once the office is open to the public.

If a defendant is paying misdemeanor criminal restitution on their own, they can mail in a money order or cashier’s check with the restitution sheet received from the prosecutor.

Check cases do not need to have a restitution sheet for payment to be accepted unless the prosecutor waives the Merchant Fee and Statutory Fees. You may contact us at 512-854-9574 to get balance information on check cases only.

If either the defense attorney or the defendant requests a receipt for the payment, they will need to mail a self-addressed stamped envelope, and we will mail it out once the payment has been posted.

TAX RATE: TRAVIS COUNTY ADOPTED A TAX RATE THAT WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR’S TAX RATE. THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 3.5 PERCENT AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A $100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATELY $9.12.
