403rd Criminal District Court

Judge Mueller has served Travis County as a Judge since 2011 and has been the presiding judge of the 403rd District Court since January of 2023. 

She is a native Austinite, who was first elected to the bench at the County Court-at-law level in November of 2010 and continues to serve in felony court, as the presiding judge of the 403rd District Court. Shortly after becoming a judge, she created and implemented what became an award winning and nationally recognized specialty docket, called Project Engage.  This program specifically serves the youngest adults in the adult criminal justice system; ages 17 to 24 years of age.  It is characterized by its requirements for work and/or school, for its supportive services, its community partners and most importantly, its high success rate.

In April of 2026, Judge Mueller was presented the Pioneering Pathways Award for Transforming Futures through Project Engage.  In October of 2023, she was honored by the African American Youth Harvest Foundation by receiving the Legacy Award from Martin Luther King, III.  She was awarded the Civic Futures Award by the City of Austin, the Austin Bar Association award for Judicial Excellence in Criminal law in 2019, and in 2022, the Sam Biscoe award for Outstanding Community Service, Dedication and Commitment to Excellence in Criminal Law.  Before being elected to the bench, she worked as a criminal lawyer, serving as an Assistant County Attorney, an Assistant District Attorney, as a Special Assistant United States Attorney and as a defense attorney in Austin.

Judge Mueller’s Project Engage District Court, is a collaborative effort between the Judiciary, the DA’s Office, Travis County Probation, Travis County Counseling Center Counselors and Case Manager, Rodney Player.  Together, they provide supportive supervision, treatment, and resources to felony clients in Travis County.
