In 2007 Travis County assumed responsibility for managing its own Storm Sewer System, as a requirement of TCEQ’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) program. Travis County is responsible for all discharges (storm water or otherwise) that enter any storm water conveyances or waterways within the county’s jurisdiction.

One requirement of the MS4 program is the development of an industrial storm water monitoring initiative. Travis County's initiative is the Industrial Storm Water Compliance Program which includes the following components:

  • Identification of industrial facilities under county jurisdiction
  • Regular compliance inspections of TPDES-permitted facilities
  • Complaint investigation and enforcement
  • Education and public outreach

Currently, Travis County’s program aims to perform semi-annual inspections of TPDES-permitted industrial facilities as well as other commercial or industrial facilities that may not be covered under TPDES. View these inspections, which are typically unscheduled, as an opportunity to learn how to comply with the TPDES permit and any other relevant environmental regulations.

If violations are found, typically the county will work with you to correct the violation and achieve compliance in a timely manner. Take advantage of this opportunity. If your business remains noncompliant or has violations that endanger the environment you may be subject to civil or criminal penalties.

If you have questions, concerns, or comments, please contact the Industrial Storm Water Program at (512) 854-7219, or email us.
