Weather Closure 

Justice of the Peace Pct. 5 will be closed Friday, February 2nd due to inclement weather conditions & the consequential effects of. Operations will resume Monday, February 5th.

Judge Chu is happy to conduct all wedding ceremonies:

  • in-person
  • virtual, or
  • signature of marriage license only

In-Person ceremonies are conducted inside his courtroom by appointment at Justice of the Peace, Pct. 5 in the historic Travis County Courthouse located on the first floor of 1000 Guadalupe St, Ste. 112 Austin, TX. He is generally available every day including weekends, holidays, and after business hours/evenings.

Judge Chu is also available, by appointment, to perform wedding ceremonies by video-conference (Zoom).

  • All ceremonies can be conducted in English, Spanish, and American Sign Language (with advance notice to schedule an interpreter).
  • All ceremonies require a valid marriage license. Marriage licenses can be obtained at any Texas county clerk’s office, regardless of where you reside.
  • Guests are welcome and facial coverings are optional

TAX RATE: TAX RATE: TRAVIS COUNTY ADOPTED A TAX RATE THAT WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR’S TAX RATE. THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 8.7 PERCENT AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A $100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATELY $22.42.
