Driving Safety Course (DSC) or Motorcycle Operator Training Course (MOTC) Information

  1. To request Driver Safety Course (DSC) or Motorcycle Operating Training Couse (MOTC), you must: 
    •  Enter a plea of Guilty or No Contest before the appearance date on the citation
      •  If mailing your request, include a SIGNED and NOTARIZED affidavit along with your plea. You can obtain this affidavit by contacting the court listed on your citation. Mailed requests must be postmarked on or before the appearance date on your citation.
    •  Submit payment for Court Costs (call the Court for the amount) + $10.00 non-refundable DSC Reimbursement Fee.
    •  Provide valid proof of insurance with your name on the policy.
    •  Provide proof of a valid Texas non-commercial driver's license or be an active-duty member/dependent of the U.S. Military Forces and present proof. 
  2. Upon approval from the court, you will be required to provide the following documents within 90 days:

The following are disqualified for DSC/MOTC:

  •  Charges that are not eligible for dismissal through DSC or MOTC include: 
    • Speeding 25 mph over limit or more than 94 mph
    • Passing a School Bus while loading/unloading children
    • Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Vehicle Damage
    • Failure to Give Information and Render Aid after an Accident
    • Construction/Maintenance Work Zone offenses with workers present
  • If you are currently taking or have taken DSC/MOTC to have a ticket dismissed in the last 12 months, you are not eligible.
  • CDL holders are not eligible for DSC/MOTC dismissal.

Exact Cash (if paying in person), Money Order, Cashier's Check, Personal Check (No Temporary Checks) or Credit/Debit Card (plus Convenience Fee).

Alternate Methods to Satisfy Judgment

An indigent defendant convicted of a fine-only offense may seek alternative methods of satisfying the judgment. These include:

  • A payment plan 
  • Performance of community service
  • Reduction/waiver of the fine and/or court cost 
  • A Defendant may be entitled to jail credit if the Defendant was confined in jail or prison after committing the offense

WARNINGS:
IF YOU FAIL TO APPEAR IN COURT, OR FAIL TO PAY AS REQUIRED BY LAW, A WARRANT MAY BE ISSUED FOR YOUR ARREST WITH A WARRANT REIMBURSEMENT FEE OF $50.00 ADDED FOR EACH CHARGE.

YOU MAY BE DENIED THE RENEWAL OF YOUR DRIVER'S LICENSE OR PRIVILEGE TO OBTAIN ONE, AND MAY BE ASSESSED A $10.00 OMNI REIMBURSEMENT FEE FOR EACH CASE AND/OR YOUR CASE(S) MAY BE FORWARDED TO A COLLECTION AGENCY.

IF ANY PART OF THE FINE OR COURT COSTS IS PAID MORE THAN 30 DAYS AFTER A JUDGMENT OR ORDER TO PAY IS ENTERED, A $15.00 TIME PAYMENT REIMBURSEMENT FEE SHALL BE ASSESSED.

TAX RATE: TRAVIS COUNTY ADOPTED A TAX RATE THAT WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR’S TAX RATE. THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 3.5 PERCENT AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A $100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATELY $9.12.
