Travis County Bail Bond Board Meeting Minutes - July 2, 2021

Ms. Ortega-Carter called the meeting to order.

A. Receive update on emergency changes to the Open Meetings Act due to the COVID-19 pandemic and take appropriate action.

 No action was taken.

B. Consider minutes of the June 2, 2021 meeting and take appropriate action.

 Mr. Blackburn moved, Mr. Engle seconded, and the Board voted to approve the June 2, 2021, minutes.    

C. Consider request from Matt Clark, dba Matt Clark’s Freedom Bail Bonds, license # 274083, to release the deeds for the following properties and to replace their value with certificates of deposit and/or cashier checks as collateral for his license:

  1.  303 Ledgemont Ln., Georgetown, TX 78628; and
  2. 207 S. Austin Ave., Georgetown, TX 78626
    The Bail Bond Board may consider the above listed item in Executive Session pursuant to Gov’t Code Ann 551.071, Consultation with Attorney.

Mr. Engle moved, Mr. Blackburn seconded, and the Board voted to approve releasing the deeds to 303 Ledgemont Ln., Georgetown, TX 78628; and 207 S. Austin Ave., Georgetown, TX 78626 and replace their value with certificates of deposit and/or cashier checks as collateral for Mr. Matt Clark’s license

D. Discuss proposal from the Travis County Sheriff’s Office to look into the possibility of using Electronic Bail Bonds and take appropriate action.

Capt. Velasquez and Lt. Dail discussed a proposal from a third-party vendor to provide electronic bail bonds to the Travis County Sheriff’s office.

E. Discuss the location of future meetings of the Bail Bond Board and whether or not to continue meeting virtually and take appropriate action.

Ms. Cox reported on revised capacity limits for the physical meeting location for the Board, and that Facilities indicated that recording equipment would need to be purchased to allow for a hybrid physical/virtual meeting to occur.

F. Public Comment

None.

Judge Meyerson moved, Judge Brown seconded, and the Board voted to adjourn.

TAX RATE: TRAVIS COUNTY ADOPTED A TAX RATE THAT WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR'S TAX RATE. THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 3.6 PERCENT AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A $100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATELY $11.00.
