Travis County is developing a locally focused transportation plan to identify transportation needs and solutions, incorporate future options and choices, and prioritize improvements in the unincorporated areas of the county.

Background Information

Historically, Travis County has adopted the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) regional transportation plan to serve as the County Transportation Plan. The CAMPO Regional Transportation Plan is a long-term, regionally focused plan which includes prioritized transportation projects among six counties for a 30-year timeframe.

In 2014, The Transportation and Natural Resources Department (TNR) developed the Land, Water & Transportation Plan (LWTP) with considerable input from local stakeholders and the public. One of the action items from the LWTP is to develop a local transportation plan for the County. The Travis County Transportation Plan will further define the transportation component of the LWTP which provides guidelines for balancing development and transportation planning with conservation.

This Will Be A LOCALLY FOCUSED Transportation Plan

The planning process starts with public engagement and additional engagement will be conducted once the draft plan is available. The County is working to have an adopted Plan by early 2018.

Recognizing the growth that continues to occur within the County, the TNR Department is developing this long-range plan to:

  • Provide an overview of the future transportation system for the County that includes future options for transportation
  • Identify transportation projects for implementation in the unincorporated areas of the County
  • Guide the County’s future transportation investments

The County is taking many factors and options into consideration such as public input, local needs, current demographics, environmental and historical constraints, safety considerations, population projections, and future funding sources to develop this Transportation Plan.
