Since 2008, Travis County has received grants in the amount of $600,000 from the Office on Violence Against Women, U.S. Department of Justice, to plan, develop, and implement a supervised visitation and exchange center. A multi-disciplinary Consulting Committee, with representatives from fourteen local stakeholders in Austin and Travis County, have attended national trainings and have met diligently since 2008 to create a model center. PlanetSafe opened its doors in May 2013. Services are provided by and through SafePlace as a collaborative project with Travis County. PlanetSafe serves families who have determined, through the courts or independently, that a third party is needed to supervise visitation or facilitate an exchange due to domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and/or dating violence and child abuse.
PlanetSafe’s vision is a community that is free of violence and supports healthy relationships within families. PlanetSafe intends to accomplish that vision through our mission to provide a safe and culturally welcoming environment for supervised visitation and safe exchange for families who experience domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and/or dating violence and child abuse.
PlanetSafe provides a safe location for supervised visitations and custodial exchanges of children whose families have a history of family violence, stalking, and/or sexual assault. A collaboration with Travis County, PlanetSafe is located at 1101 Nueces, adjacent to the Blackwell-Thurman Criminal Justice Center in downtown Austin.
