This month of April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and SafePlace is bringing the Start By Believing campaign to Austin. It is a collaborative effort with campaign partners including Travis County Sheriff’s Office, APD, Travis County Counseling and Education Services, Travis County Constable Office Precinct 5, SANE Nurse Examiners, Planned Parenthood, Texas Advocacy Project plus several universities and colleges, UT at Austin, St. Edwards, Concordia and several ACC campuses.

The Start By Believing campaign is to encourage all members of the community to believe a sexual assault victim if they confide in you after an assault. Research has shown that being believed by someone is the first step for the victim in seeking justice, as well as, healing emotionally, physically, and spiritually themselves. Please read the campaign announcement below for more information and go to the website address as well. The campaign is encouraging as many people as possible to take the pledge to “Start by Believing".
