Vision
The Travis County Compliance and Privacy (CAP) program will be recognized as one of the best compliance programs within the State, that strives to conduct business with the highest level of awareness, training, commitment, and adherence to applicable laws and regulations. To do so, this requires the implementation of policies and procedures that address potential compliance risk areas as well as identifiable mechanisms for reporting, investigating, monitoring, and correcting cases of suspected non-compliance.

Building a Compliance and Privacy (CAP) program where staff and clients are addressed with dignity, respect, and equipped with the training, knowledge and understanding to protect and secure all privacy data held by Travis County.
Our Commitment to Travis County
The primary function of the CAP office is to monitor all HIPAA and Privacy operational processes and procedures using a compliance management platform to ensure that Travis County complies with all legal regulations and ethical standards.
We achieve these responsibilities by:
- Developing an effective compliance program by implementing standards of conduct, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure proper oversight, by having a Compliance Officer and Governance Committee that hold operational responsibility, autonomy, and authority.
- Creating effective ongoing awareness and training platforms, while establishing open lines of effective communication.
- Internal auditing and monitoring by using internal tools to evaluate program effectiveness.
- Reporting and Investigation procedures that encourage employees to raise concerns while having effective investigative procedures in place.
- Overseeing standardized disciplinary and enforcement actions for intentional and malicious data privacy violations.
- Prompt response and prevention to resolve identified problems and implementation of corrective actions plans that will monitor ongoing and future activities.

The Compliance and Privacy (CAP) office is ONLY able to assist with issues related to protected information that has been collected and maintained by Travis County or its third-party vendors.
If CAP cannot directly assist you, we will point you to the Travis County division that can assist you better.

If you need to report an incident or file a complaint regarding our privacy policies and procedures, or if you believe your privacy rights have been violated, please visit our dedicated page to submit your report. The HIPAA Compliance and Privacy Office will review and resolve your submission within 45-60 days.
