Travis County residents and business owners who received storm damage during the May 27, 2016 flood are eligible for federal assistance, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The Austin Disaster Relief Network remains active. Their hotline is 512-806-0800 to provide flood survivor assistance. They will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Friday June 17th, 2016.
Travis County Transportation and Natural Resources has completed the damage assessment from the May 27, 2016 flood. The numbers include damages on Lake Travis. The flooding was primarily on Dry and Maha Creeks in Precinct 4. Please be mindful that major, minor and affected refers to damage level of a structure, not the experience of our citizens; 46 Major (with many likely destroyed), 40 Minor, 20 Affected, 111 total.
Buy-Out Information
Currently, Travis County only has buy-out funds for properties that have already been identified. This fall, we will obtain information from a study of the October 2015 flood at Thoroughbred Farms, and we will work to identify cost-effective alternatives for mitigating flooding in that area. Those alternatives could include buy-outs and structural changes, such as dikes, levies and channels. At this time, funding for any chosen alternative will likely be requested in a County Bond Referendum planned for November 2017. This information could change, as it is dependent upon actions taken by the Commissioners Court.
