award1One of Travis County's own, Ms. Gretta Gardner, the Counseling and Education Services (CES) Family Violence Director, was honored for her domestic violence work by The National Task Force to End Sexual and Domestic Violence Against Women (NTF) and Mary Kay in Washington D.C. on September 10th. Ms. Gardner was one out of five recipients of the "Unsung Hero" award presented at the 30 year anniversary of the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act and the 20 year anniversaries of Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) and Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) ceremony entitled "Pillars of Empowerment". Ms. Gardner was honored for her work in Travis County as Chair of the Austin/Travis County Family Violence Task Force.

TAX RATE: TRAVIS COUNTY ADOPTED A TAX RATE THAT WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR’S TAX RATE. THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 3.5 PERCENT AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A $100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATELY $9.12.
