Once we receive your citation and depending on the deputy caseload, the defendant will be served within approximately 7-10 business days.

Service costs are currently set at $85. Please see our Fee Information page for a breakdown of costs by filing.

Unfortunately, we do not accept cash payments. You can pay the service fee via credit card, money order, business check, or cashier’s check. All checks can be made out to Travis County Constable Precinct 4.

Our deputies must make at least three attempts to personally serve the defendant before the court can consider alternative service*. The court must approve the request before moving forward with this service method.  

*This is specific to our JP court; other courts may have different requirements. 

Our job is done! We have filed proof of service with the court on your behalf. Follow up with the court you filed your suit with for your next steps.

All necessary information about your next steps is listed in the citation you were served. For any clarification, please reach out to the court that your case was filed in for more information.

It will take a few days for the court to send over the issued writ after your request is filed. Once we receive it, our deputies will post the defendant’s 24-hour notice to vacate as soon as possible.

Our deputies will reach out to schedule the writ of possession with you. Please give our officers at least 24 hours from the time of posting for scheduling.  

During this discussion, please share any sensitive information regarding the execution of the writ with the deputy (Ex. Previous issues, concerning behavior, etc.). 

Our deputies will escort any remaining tenants from the premises and remain to supervise the removal of the defendant’s property. 

Our deputies are not movers. Please have the appropriate assistance before our deputies arrive. 

We require all cancellations to be stated in writing. You can cancel a writ by emailing the Civil Department. Please include a case number, the defendant’s name, and your request. You will receive a cancellation email confirming your request.
