“Prepare Travis County” to Educate Residents about Being Ready for Disasters and Emergencies

During the month of September, which is recognized as National Preparedness Month, Travis County’s Emergency Services Department will engage in a monthlong campaign to encourage Travis County residents to take proactive steps now to prepare their families and homes for future natural disasters or emergencies that may affect our region.

Every year, Central Texas is impacted by extreme weather events like floods, hurricanes, winter storm, and extreme heat. Those disasters can threaten people’s lives and cause catastrophic damage to people’s properties.

The #PrepareTravisCounty campaign will use the Travis County Emergency Services Department’s Facebook, Twitter, and Nextdoor accounts to share information in English and Spanish about natural disasters that affect Central Texas and what people can do at home to make sure their families, pets, homes, and businesses stay safe.

Small actions people take now can save lives during an emergency,” said Charles Brotherton, Travis County Executive for Emergency Services. “We encourage everyone to learn about the weather events Central Texans often face and prepare a plan for different types of situations, such as evacuations, shelter-in-place, or dealing with power outages. The #PrepareTravisCounty campaign will educate our residents about creating an emergency kit, making an evacuation ‘go’ bag, and what to do before, during, and after an emergency.

Travis County encourages residents to follow Travis County Emergency Services on social media.
