Subject: Heads Up - long day on 7/10

Commissioners and Executives:

I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July!

Next week we will be deliberating Compensation, the first ever Travis County Transit Development Plan, and interviewing for our next County Executive of Emergency Services. On Tuesday at the Agenda Setting meeting (a day early due to the holiday) it became apparent there were too many agenda requests for Tuesday 7/10 to manage within a reasonable work day on the dais. The time estimate based on input at Agenda Setting was 7.5 hours of deliberation. I try to work within a 6-hour ceiling. Staff has reached out to a number of offices, internal and external, to explore moving some of the requested items to other days.

In an effort to manage expectations, I want to let you know our progress:

  • Proclamation - in discussion with Shea’s office about resetting for 7/17
  • Phoneix Court – reset to date TBD
  • Travis County Code – reset to 7/24
  • Urban Fest – reset to 7/24
  • Constables off-duty vehicle use – reset to 7/24
  • TCSO off-duty vehicle use – reset to 7/24
  • Workforce Solutions subsidized childcare - reset to date TBD
  • Ethics Policy – reset to 7/17
  • Central Health lease – reset to 7/17
Even with these movements, I anticipate a long day on 7/10. My time estimate of the remaining agenda items is 5-6 hours.

On a process note, the CATAA Lyst has been helpful for anticipating and smoothing out the time demands of coming agenda items. Thanks so much to everyone for 1. requesting a penciled-in date on the CATAA Lyst as soon as you know of a needed agenda item and 2. getting the agenda requests in as early as possible. If you have any process question or suggestions about how to get a penciled-in date on the CATAA Lyst or about agenda requests, please contact Joe (copied).

Please note the following updated information:

  • National Disability Voter Registration Week proclamation – staying on 7/10 VS
  • Travis County Code – reset to 7/17 VS
  • Workforce Solutions update on subsidized childcare – moved to 7/12 WS
  • Central Health lease – staying on 7/10 VS
