About

Andy Brown serves as the Travis County Judge, presiding over the Travis County Commissioners Court, which oversees the County’s $2 billion annual budget. As County Judge, he serves as the County’s chief administrator and Director of Emergency Management. Since taking office, Judge Brown has prioritized expanding opportunity and delivering resources to historically underserved communities, including launching a mass COVID-19 vaccination effort focused on communities of color and directing critical support during Winter Storm Uri and the 2025 Summer Floods.
Judge Brown is leading efforts to strengthen Central Texas by expanding access to affordable, high-quality childcare and advancing a new passenger rail connection between Austin and San Antonio. He views childcare as essential infrastructure for working families and economic mobility, and rail as a transformative investment to improve mobility, reduce congestion, and support long-term regional growth. Under his leadership, the Commissioners Court approved $110 million for housing for people experiencing homelessness, anticipated to create up to 3,000 new housing units, while also investing in mental and behavioral health care outside the jail system.
Before taking office, Judge Brown helped create the Sobering Center–Austin, served as a legislative aide to former Texas Speaker Pete Laney, managed Congressman Lloyd Doggett’s campaign, clerked for the U.S. District Court in McAllen, and served as Travis County Democratic Party Chair.
