Hands On Central Texas, a program of United Way for Greater Austin, strengthens communities through meaningful volunteer action. We engage thousands of Central Texans in volunteerism annually and empower people to make volunteering a regular part of their lives through our annual Days of Service and Corporate Team Building projects.

Hands On Central Texas is dedicated to volunteering on a flexible basis, providing projects and opportunities for volunteers to make a real, positive impact on our community’s most pressing issues. In addition to connecting people to volunteer opportunities, Hands On Central Texas runs a number of projects and programs aimed at sparking sustained, passionate community service. Among these initiatives are:

Volunteer Project Leader Training

Volunteer Project Leader training is a national training initiative that aims to transform casual volunteers into active community leaders by equipping them with the leadership skills and tools they need to make meaningful and lasting change in their communities. Some examples of projects that Volunteer Project Leaders can lead include: organizing a group to sort food at a local food bank or pantry; organizing a park clean-up; constructing wheelchair ramps for the disabled; restoring a childcare center; planting a community garden; organizing a donation drive; and many more.

Days of Service

Imagine the power and excitement of having hundreds of local volunteers working on all kinds of volunteer projects in a single day or one weekend. That’s exactly what happens during our United Way Days of Caring. Volunteers work on all kinds of projects and the results are epic. Homes are built, hungry people are fed, children are mentored, trails and parks are restored, the elderly are remembered, and schools receive much needed help.

Services Provided by Get Connected

Hands On Central Texas utilizes Get Connected, an innovative technology
platform that enables full cycle volunteer engagement and management as our volunteer database. Get Connected has the capacity to:

  • Identify and recruit volunteers for agencies in Central Texas that can use your volunteer support;
  • Assist companies with internal volunteer recruitment;
  • Communicate project logistics to volunteers; and
  • Build a philanthropic resume by tracking individual volunteer hours.

Nonprofits from all over Central Texas utilize this database to recruit volunteers for their organization. Visit handsoncentraltexas.org to find the agency or project that best fits your passion and interest.
