Proper Usage

  • Over-the-counter medications and supplements do not need to be dropped off in the bins. They can safely go in the trash.
  • If someone cannot make the trip to a collection bin, they can dispose of prescription medication in the trash by following these guidelines:
    1. Empty medicine containers into a seal-able bag or a disposable container with a lid.
    2. Mix the drugs with an undesirable substance, such as used coffee grounds or cat litter and seal the container.
    3. Place container in the trash.
    4. Conceal or remove any personal information, including the prescription (Rx) number, on the empty containers and recycle them.
  • Illegal drugs cannot be disposed of in the collection bins.

Security

  • The bag inside the collection bin is automatically sealed before the bin can be opened. This prevents staff from accessing any of the contents.
  • The bags are shipped to the company that provides the service and they incinerate it.
