Travis County Development Services oversees guidelines, procedures, and permits for all development outside corporate city limits in the County, and they are responsible for floodplain management, construction activity inspections, and regulating subdivisions in unincorporated areas of the County and extraterritorial jurisdictions (ETJs) in partnership with other jurisdictions and agencies.

What is development?

Development is defined as any man-made changes to improved or unimproved real estate, including but not limited to:

  • Structures/Buildings
  • Driveways
  • Work in the county right-of-way
  • On-site sewage facilities
  • Division of land
  • Mining, dredging, filling, grading, paving, excavation, or drilling
  • And more

Any development in Travis County requires a permit. For more information about requirements associated with getting a development permit, please click the button below.

Our website is intended to provide clarity to the Development Permit application process, but does not supersede the requirements in Travis County Code.
