New Vehicle Eligibility Requirements Effective Sept. 1

To participate in the AirCheck Texas program you must also meet these income requirements.

Income eligibility requirements

Vehicles to be retired:

A vehicle to be retired must be currently registered and have been registered in the participating county for 12 of the past 15 months preceding application for assistance.

If it is less than 90 days since your registration expired, you may be eligible for a voucher if you purchase a temporary vehicle registration. A temporary registration is valid for 30 days. A temporary registration can only be obtained from a county tax officer.

If it has been longer than 90 days since the registration for your vehicle expired, then you are not eligible for the program.

Replacement Vehicles

Eligible Replacement Vehicle Lists*

Model Year

  • Model year 2017-2014 cars, SUVs, and vans
  • Model year 2017-2015 pickup trucks
  • Model year 2017-2014 hybrid, electric, natural gas

*Tier 2 Bin 5 Vehicles

Must be certified to a Federal Tier 2 Bin 5 or cleaner Tier 2 Bin standard or to a Federal Tier 3 Bin 160 or cleaner (see the list: model year 2018[7], 2017[8], 2016[9], 2015[10]) ****CHECK THE LISTS TO DETERMINE YOUR MAXIMUM REIMBURSEMENT. IF THE VEHICLE IS FEDERAL TIER 3 BIN 160- OR CLEANER, YOU COULD QULIFY FOR $3,500.

The vehicle you purchase must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be a federal Tier 2 Bin 5 or cleaner vehicle
  • Have an odometer reading of not more than 70,000 miles;
  • Cannot cost more than:
    • $35,000 before tax, title and license, or
    • $45,000 for a hybrid vehicle, electric vehicle, natural gas vehicle or a vehicle certified to meet or exceed federal Tier 2, Bin 3 or cleaner certification of current or up to three model years old; before tax, title and license; and
  • Must be purchased through a participating dealer.
