Mariela Vazquez was raised in South Dallas. She pursued her education at Texas A&M University, where she earned a BA in Political Science. Mariela is also a sister of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority Inc., where she dedicated a significant amount of time to volunteering in the low socioeconomic Spanish-speaking community. During her final semester at Texas A&M, Mariela embarked on a career path that aligned with her passion for justice and community service. She joined the Brazos County Justice of The Peace 4 as the head court clerk and later took on the role of Interim Court Coordinator. In these positions, Mariela played a crucial role in serving a majority-minority underserved community. Eager for new challenges and opportunities, Mariela made the decision to relocate to Austin. Her quest for aligning her career with her values led her to the Travis County Public Defender's Office, where she found a role that resonates with her commitment to social justice. In this new chapter, Mariela continues her journey of making a positive impact and contributing to the pursuit of fairness and equity within the legal and judicial systems.
