First Annual volunteer cleanup to protect our downstream river basin

AUSTIN, TX – Colorado River Alliance and Travis County Parks are bringing a whole new meaning to spring cleaning! Our beautiful parks and Texas Colorado River need a little “spring cleaning” –and we need YOUR help! Join us on April 20th – the Saturday before Earth Day – to get your hands dirty while helping to keep the Earth and our parks clean.

Over 100 volunteers and community leaders will come together to remove and recycle litter across seven parks in Eastern Travis County on Saturday, April 20, 2024, from 9:00 - 11:00 am.

I’d like to encourage everyone to come out to participate in the Spring Cleanup of our eastern Travis County Parks on April 20th. It is essential that we keep our waterways clear, so we can continue to enjoy our beautiful parks, rivers, and creeks. Many thanks to the folks at Colorado River Alliance and Travis County Parks for organizing this Spring Cleanup!” – Commissioner Gomez, Precinct 4

These waterways are our source of drinking water and it’s essential that we all pitch in to keep them clean. It's especially important for our downstream neighbors.” – Commissioner Shea, Precinct 2

A fun way to celebrate Earth Day and inspired by the Lake Travis Cleanup which has seen volunteers cleaning up and giving back since 1994, this event helps raise awareness that litter travels, emphasizing the importance of keeping our parks and creeks healthy and clean. “This event is an opportunity to pick-up litter and protect vital open space that supports the entire River and downstream communities,” said Adrienne Longenecker, Colorado River Alliance’s Executive Director. Litter that finds its way into the parks, finds its way into the River.

The Texas Colorado River supplies drinking water for 1.5 million people in Central Texas as well as providing us with opportunities to boat, fish, SUP, kayak, and enjoy water safely.

The Spring Cleanup will take place across seven Travis County Parks in East Austin, Pflugerville, Manor, Del Valle, and Webberville with volunteer opportunities for all ages. Reserve your spot to help keep our vital drinking water source clean and flowing for generations to come!
