NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING ON TAX INCREASE

NO-NEW-REVENUE TAX RATE $0.090813 per $100
VOTER-APPROVAL TAX RATE $0.102045 per $100

The no-new-revenue tax rate is the tax rate for the 2023 tax year that will raise the same amount of property tax revenue for the Travis County Healthcare District d/b/a Central Health from the same properties in both the 2022 tax year and the 2023 tax year.

The voter-approval tax rate is the highest tax rate that the Travis County Healthcare District d/b/a Central Health may adopt without holding an election to seek voter approval of the rate.

The proposed tax rate is greater than the no-new-revenue tax rate. This means that the Travis County Healthcare District d/b/a Central Health is proposing to increase property taxes for the 2023 tax year.

A PUBLIC HEARING ON THE PROPOSED TAX RATE WILL BE HELD ON WEDNESDAY, August 30, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. At the central health administrative offices, 1111 E Cesar Chavez Street, Austin, TX 78702.   

This hearing will also be conducted remotely by videoconference. Members of the public are encouraged to observe and participate in the public hearing by using the meeting link and password listed below:

The proposed tax rate is not greater than the voter-approval tax rate. As a result, the Travis County Healthcare District d/b/a Central Health is not required to hold an election at which voters may accept or reject the proposed tax rate. However, you may express your support for or opposition to the proposed tax rate by contacting the members of the Travis County Healthcare District d/b/a Central Health Board of Managers at their offices or by attending the public hearing mentioned above.

The members of the governing body voted on the proposal to consider the tax increase as follows:

FOR: Charles Bell, Shannon Jones, Manuel Martin, Amit Motwani, Maram Museitif, Cynthia Valadez, and Guadalupe Zamora.

AGAINST:

PRESENT and not voting:

ABSENT:  Cynthia Brinson and Ann Kitchen.

The 86th Texas Legislature modified the manner in which the voter-approval tax rate is calculated to limit the rate of growth of property taxes in the state.

TAX RATE: TRAVIS COUNTY ADOPTED A TAX RATE THAT WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR’S TAX RATE. THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 3.5 PERCENT AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A $100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATELY $9.12.
