Travis County Housing Assistance Program to Pause Accepting New Applications

Travis County’s Health and Human Services Department paused accepting new applications for rent and mortgage assistance as of late Tuesday, March 15, 2022. For more information

(Travis County, TX) – Following direction provided by the Travis County Commissioners Court on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, the County’s Health and Human Services (HHS) Department will pause accepting new applications once they receive 4,500 rental and mortgage assistance applications. HHS is expecting to reach that number within the next several days.

Since the program launched on March 1, 2022, HHS has received 3,356 applications. The available $9,155,552 program is funded through Travis County’s general fund and the Local Fiscal Recovery Fund (LFRF) provided under the American Rescue Plan Act.

Based on the rate of applications received and the availability of funding, the Commissioners Court gave direction to pause once the number of applications exceeds the funding available. After reviewing those applications for eligibility, if available funds remain, HHS will resume accepting new applications.

Travis County residents in need of rental or mortgage assistance can apply online (www.traviscountytx.gov/apply) or request a paper application from a Travis County Community Center. Applicants must live in Travis County, and the household income must not exceed 250% of poverty income levels outlined by the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines per household size.
