Austin, TX - Nearly 1,000 volunteers will dredge up five tons of trash and recyclables from Lake Travis this summer to keep our vital waterways clean. These volunteers will dive to the depths of Lake Travis, walk the shoreline, and boat along the lake’s surface at the 25th annual Lake Travis Cleanup on Sunday, September 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Lake Travis Cleanup, a partner event from Colorado River Alliance (CRA) and Travis County Parks, is the largest scuba diving and shoreline cleanup in Texas, bringing in dedicated dive groups and passionate volunteers from all over the state for 25 years. The cleanup also serves as a public education event, teaching the public about the importance of keeping Lake Travis and the Texas Colorado River clean and healthy.

“The cleanup isn’t just about getting trash out of the water,” said Scott Sticker, Director of Outreach and Operations at CRA, “it’s about keeping this important river’s ecosystem vibrant and flowing.”

A thank you party at the Oasis on Lake Travis with a DJ, door prizes, a “strangest thing found” contest, educational booths and other activities will follow the cleanup from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Since this is the 25th anniversary of this important cleanup, expect tons of fun and surprises to celebrate!

For volunteer information or more info on the cleanup, please contact CRA Program Coordinator, Lenee Dedeaux at [email protected] or at 512-498-1587.
