It is our American tradition to celebrate the founding of our nation and the joys of summer. What would summer be without parades, cookouts, and fireworks? Especially on the Fourth of July, our nation’s birthday.

But remember, fireworks can turn a joyful celebration into a painful memory when children and adults are injured or killed while using fireworks.

Important points to know and remember this July 4th:

  • Emergency rooms treated nearly 13,000 people for firework related injuries in 2017.
  • One third of those victims were children under the age of 15.
  • Sparklers cause ¼ of emergency room visits for firework related injuries.
  • Sparklers may seem less dangerous but they can actually reach a temperature of more than 1,200 degrees which cause 3rd degree burns and destroy skin and bone.
