On April 27, STAR Flight was conducting a rescue of a woman who had fallen in the Barton Creek Greenbelt near the 2600 block of Barton Hills Drive around 8:25 p.m.

At approximately 9:50 p.m., STAR Flight, flying in an EC-145 helicopter, located the woman and was hoisting her into the aircraft when STAR Flight Flight Nurse Kristin McLain, 46, fell from the helicopter’s hoist. Flight Nurse McLain died at the scene.

The rescued patient was transported to University Medical Center-Brackenridge with non-life threatening injuries.

Memorial Service Details

The Memorial Service for family, colleagues and friends of Travis County STAR Flight Nurse Kristin McLain are scheduled for Friday, May 1,2015, at the Hill Country Bible Church.

Service will begin at 11:30 a.m. with an outdoor honors ceremony following the service. There will be a procession for family, VIP and public safety agencies from Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Lakeway to the Hill Country Bible Church in Austin beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Public safety agencies wishing to participate in the procession will need to arrive at the designated staging area by 8:30 a.m. Staging instructions for public safety vehicles will be sent to public safety agencies prior to the date.

TAX RATE: TRAVIS COUNTY ADOPTED A TAX RATE THAT WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR’S TAX RATE. THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 3.5 PERCENT AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A $100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATELY $9.12.
