Travis County Parks is scheduled to conduct multiple prescribed burns at Reimers Ranch Park August 11-13. The prescribed burns are part of the ongoing management of the Park and are implemented to improve grassland health, remove invasive shrubs, and reduce fuel loads. The prescribed burns are the first of six prescribed burns that are planned for the Park through the early winter. Travis County Parks is conducting the burn in cooperation with Lake Travis Fire Rescue, Pedernales Fire Department, and the Texas A&M Forest Service.

This week, two prescribed burns are planned, and each of them will take one to two days to complete. The burns are scheduled to begin between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. each day and are expected to be completed between 3 and 5 p.m.

Variable wind directions are expected during the prescribed burns, and the smoke could be carried in multiple directions. The majority of the smoke is expected to disperse to the northwest and southwest over the park and the surrounding communities. The Park will remain open, but some areas, notably the Equestrian Parking Area and Climbers Canyon, will be closed due to the smoke. Other trails and areas within the Park may be closed, and there may be temporary road closures along the main park road.

Due to the small size of the prescribed burns and the distance between the prescribed burn and the adjacent communities, very little smoke should be visible in those communities, and no impacts are expected.

Reimers Ranch Park is located at: 23610 Hamilton Pool Road, Dripping Springs 78620.

Media note: Depending on staffing and which area is being burned, reporters may be able to observe the burn; however, arrangements will need to be made ahead of time. If you are interested in attending, please contact PIO Dan Pacatte, Park Forester, at 512-507-0143 for more information.
