Court members,

Judge Eckhardt asked that I post the following information related to the Special Called Voting Session scheduled for Friday, May 29th at 10 AM in the Commissioners Courtroom:

Colleagues,

We have a special Voting Session on Friday May 29 at 10AM to consider what action, if any, we choose to take regarding the evidence of undervaluation provided by the City of Austin’s study of commercial property tax appraisals. It appears we have 3 options:
  1. File our own challenge to “true up” commercial property appraisals countywide based on the actual sales price data available to us (but not currently available to TCAD);
  2. Direct the County Attorney’s Office to participate in the City of Austin’s challenge to “true up” commercial property appraisals citywide based on the actual sales price data available to them (but not currently available to TCAD); or
  3. Do nothing.

TAX RATE: TRAVIS COUNTY ADOPTED A TAX RATE THAT WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR’S TAX RATE. THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 3.5 PERCENT AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A $100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATELY $9.12.
