Air Quality Awareness Week is May 5 through May 9. The purpose Air Quality Awareness Week is to educate people about air quality, how it affects your health, and to encourage everyone to incorporate the Air Quality Index (AQI) into their daily lives. This week is significant because it coincides with the start of Wildfire Awareness Month [capcog.createsend1.com] and National Bike Month [do512.com](May 2025), as well as World Asthma Day [epa.gov] (Tuesday, May 6, 2025).
The theme for this year is, “Stay Air Aware.”
Topics for AQAW 2025 are:
- Monday, May 5 – Wildland Fires & Smoke [aircentraltexas.org]
- Tuesday, May 6 – Air Quality & Sensitive Groups [aircentraltexas.org]
- Wednesday, May 7 – Knowing Your Air [aircentraltexas.org]
- Thursday, May 8 – Air Quality & Urban Heat Resilience [aircentraltexas.org]
- Friday, May 9 – Air Quality & Community Science [aircentraltexas.org]
Air Central Texas, in collaboration with Travis County, will be sharing an Air Quality Checklist [forms.office.com] and Air Quality Pledge [forms.office.com] sheet to help Central Texans “Stay Air Aware.” For each form completed, people will be entered into a raffle for a $25 Amazon Gift Card and an air quality sensor.
You can celebrate Wildfire Awareness Month by participating in Wildfire Community Preparedness Day [nfpa.org], a campaign that encourages people and organizations take action to reduce wildfire risk.
You can also participate in Bike to Work Day [bikemonthatx.com] (May 16), an annual event that promotes the bicycle as an option for commuting to work.
