Apply for a Travis County Job
Closely follow the steps below to successfully apply for a job with Travis County.
Find an Employment Opportunity
Employment opportunities may include full-time, part-time, temporary, or seasonal positions. Review each posting carefully to understand the position's responsibilities, schedule, duration (if applicable), qualifications, and application deadline.
Create or Access Your GovernmentJobs Account
Travis County uses GovernmentJobs to accept online applications.
If you already have a GovernmentJobs account, sign in using your existing username and password. You may be able to use the same account that you previously used to apply with Travis County or another participating government employer.
If you do not have an account, follow the instructions on the portal to create one. Use an email address you check regularly and keep your login information in a secure place. Travis County may use the contact information in your account to communicate with you about your application.
Complete Your Applicant Profile
Complete or update your applicant profile before submitting your application.
Provide accurate information about your employment history, education, licenses, certifications, and other qualifications. Do not rely only on an attached résumé unless the job posting specifically allows it. All positions require an application; not all positions require a resume. Information requested in the application should also be entered into the appropriate application fields.
Review your contact information to make sure Travis County can reach you.
Applicants with Criminal Histories
Having a criminal history does not automatically disqualify you from employment with Travis County. Some positions require background checks, but these occur later in the hiring process. Learn more about our hiring guidelines.
Complete the Application and Supplemental Questions
Complete all required sections of the application and answer any supplemental questions included with the job posting.
Once your profile is complete, you can submit your application to specific jobs. Much of your profile will automatically update each application but we recommend confirming that all sections of the application along with supplemental questions and attachments (like a resume) are complete.
Use specific and accurate information when describing your experience. Your responses should be consistent with the employment and education history listed in your application. Attach any documents requested in the job posting and allow enough time to complete the process before the deadline.
Review and Submit Your Application
Review your application carefully before submitting it. Confirm that all required fields and supplemental questions are complete and that any required attachments have been included.
Submit the application before the deadline listed in the job posting. After submitting, look for a confirmation screen or email indicating that your application was received. A saved or incomplete application may not be considered submitted.
Reminder
Once you submit your application, it cannot be edited.
Watch for County Communication
Once you submit your application, the department may contact you via email and/or phone. Please be sure to check your messages and emails frequently to ensure you do not miss an important message.
If you have questions, each posting will have a contact link at the bottom of the posting. You can reach out directly to get updates or ask questions.
If you have to change email or phone, please make sure to update your profile so the departments have access to your correct information.
Prepare for the Next Stage
If you are selected to move forward, the hiring department may contact you about an interview, assessment, or another stage of the selection process. The process may vary depending on the position.
Respond to a Job Offer and Complete Pre-Employment Requirements
If you are selected for a position, Travis County will provide instructions about the offer and any remaining pre-employment requirements.
Depending on the position, these requirements may include employment eligibility verification, reference or background checks, credential verification, or other position-specific steps. Complete each requirement by the deadline provided and contact the appropriate representative if you have questions.
Seasonal & Election Jobs
In addition to full-time and part-time employment opportunities, Travis County hires temporary staff throughout the year to support seasonal operations and election activities. Some temporary positions—including election worker opportunities—follow a different hiring process than other County jobs.
