UAP Appointments

The individual Commissioner Court members make appointments to numerous boards and commissions. A list of these appointments can be found on the Board & Committee Appointments page. There are 13 additional board and commission appointments that are made by the full Commissioners Court. The Intergovernmental Relations Office manages the process for these appointments following the procedures laid out in the Uniform Appointment Policy. Collectively, these thirteen agency appointments are referred to as UAP Appointments.

Housing Authority of Travis County Board of Commissioners

Application Deadline: May 30, 2024

The Travis County Commissioners Court seeks residents interested in working creatively in public and affordable housing. The Court is looking to fill two vacancies on the Housing Authority of Travis County (HATC).

Applicants should be interested in working with experienced board members to shape the future of key county assets. As the community grapples with housing needs, the Court seeks to build a team of appointees to work proactively on policy, staff development and innovative business processes that will strengthen the organization to provide leadership in this important arena. County staff is engaged with the board to assist in developing a roadmap that will assist new and current members in planning for action.

HOUSING AUTHORITY OF TRAVIS COUNTY

The Housing Authority of Travis County, Texas (HATC) exists to provide safe, decent, and sanitary housing for low-income families in Travis County. HATC currently operates and maintains 154 HUD public housing units and authorizes the issuance of over 500 housing choice vouchers.

One of the organization’s key initiatives is the management and maintenance of HUD Project-Based Rental Assistance (PBRA) units, as well as affordable family and senior developments (non-PBRA) - Carson Creek Homes and Manor Town Apartments, respectively. Another critical aspect of HATC’s mission is the issuance of Housing Choice Vouchers. This program offers qualifying families the flexibility to choose rental units in the private market while receiving financial assistance from HATC.

Beyond simply providing housing options, HATC is committed to empowering our clients through various supportive services. The organization works in partnership with other community organizations to offer job training, educational programs, and access to essential resources. By fostering self-sufficiency among HATC residents, the organization contributes to building stronger communities and enhancing the overall quality of life for those it serves.

QUALIFICATIONS

The Travis County Commissioners Court is seeking qualified applicants who will participate actively in the work of the Board and dedicate their time, talent, and energy to the mission of the HATC. In particular, the Court is looking for applicants familiar with one or more of the following:

  • finance and accounting principles
  • familiarity with federal and state housing funding sources
  • knowledge of financing tools such as bonds, tax credits & incentives
  • development/construction process
  • property management
  • experience working with diverse & special needs populations
  • social services
  • nonprofit organizations
  • strategic planning, and
  • affordable/public housing.

Current or former residents of a public housing unit are encouraged to apply, although that is not a required qualification for appointment.

Applicants must be a current resident of Travis County.

TAX RATE: TRAVIS COUNTY ADOPTED A TAX RATE THAT WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR’S TAX RATE. THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 3.5 PERCENT AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A $100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATELY $9.12.
