Project Background

On May 8th, 2018, Travis County Commissioners Court approved the creation of the Palm School Advisory Board, directly nominating Anita Quintanilla to serve as cultural representative and authorizing the Travis County Historical Commission and Urban Land Institute-Austin to nominate a historic and real estate representative, respectively. Those two organizations nominated Kate Singleton of Preservation Austin and Rob Golding of Rodeo Austin.

The Palm School Advisory Board is charged with drafting recommended covenants for deed-restricted sale or long-term lease of the Palm School Property, considering it's significant cultural, historic, and real estate value.

To assist them in this effort, the Board and County staff have scheduled two public input meetings this summer to gather stories, identify public priorities, and receive important feedback to inform their work.

The first of these public input meetings was held on Tuesday, June 19th, 2018. Staff Advisory board members presented information about the Palm School Historic Structure Report.

Additionally, staff and the Advisory Board created and distributed a survey with key questions to better gauge and understand public priorities.
