What's Happening to Texas' Water
Storm Water Videos Broadcast on Travis County's Cable Channel 17- May Schedule
The following information is presented for public education as part of Travis County's Storm Water Management Program (SWMP) required by the Texas Commission for Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
The video titled, 'Texas, The State of Water', presented by Texas Parks & Wildlife, explores the present state of water resources in our state, takes an in-depth look at individual water systems such as the parched deserts in the west to the rich swamps of the east, and examines how these separate elements are really part of a complex, interconnected ecosystem. This video also raises awareness of the demands being placed on the aquifers, rivers, and bays of Texas. It will be broadcast on the following dates/ times:
May 1st - 10:00 PM
May 2nd - 12:30 PM & 6:30 PM
May 3rd - 9:00 AM & 8:30 PM
May 4th - 8:30 AM
May 5th - 3:00 pm
May 6th - 12:30 PM
The video titled, 'Texas, The State of Water: Finding a Balance', presented by TEXAS Parks & Wildlife, explores the growing demand for water, the impact that growth will have on Texas, and how the steps we take will impact Texas' people, wildlife, and economic vitality. It will be broadcast on the following dates/times:
May 8th - 10:00 PM
May 9th - 12:30 PM & 6:30 PM
May 10th - 9:00 AM & 8:30 PM
May 11th - 8:30 AM
May 12th - 3:00 PM
May 13th - 12:30 PM
The following special features, presented by TEXAS Parks & Wildlife, will be broadcast during each time block listed below:
1) Prescription to Burn- examining fire as an important tool to manage and restore natural landscapes.
2) Forests of the River Bottom- examination of how natural flooding cycles are an integral part of the bottomland hardwood forests.
3) Diggin' School- school children learn to construct a 'Wildscape' using native plants that requires little watering.
4) Dealing with Drought- how Corpus Christi is working to secure water for the future.
These four videos will be broadcast together during each of the following time blocks:

The video titled, 'A Run Unto the Sea: The Adventures of the Abilene Boys', presented by the LCRA, is a 1 hour documentary hosted by Walter Cronkite on 3 retired men who recreated in 1990 a canoe trip they had taken down the Colorado River in the 1930's. It will be broadcast on the following dates/times:
May 22nd - 10:00 PM
May 23rd - 12:30 PM & 6:30 PM
May 24th - 9:00 AM & 8:30 PM
May 25th - 8:30 AM
May 26th - 3:00 PM
May 27th - 12:30 PM
The following videos, presented by the LCRA, will be broadcast during each time block listed below:
1) The Water Never Gets This High- a look at the Colorado River's historical tendency for catastrophic floods.
2) Ready For the Next Flood- a look at LCRA's flood-management operations.
3) Pointless Pollution- a documentary hosted by Walter Cronkite on the problems posed to the nation's water supply by non-point source pollution. One segment includes Lake Travis.
These three videos will be broadcast together during each of the following time blocks:
