Get Involved! U+2 Campaign Seeks Volunteers
Register yourself and help two or more citizens register to vote for the Presidential Election now by becoming a Volunteer Deputy Registrar. Travis County enjoys the highest voter registration rate among urban counties in Texas thanks in large part to its Volunteer Deputy Registrars. They distribute voter registration applications and take responsibility for making sure the applications are completed correctly. Volunteer Deputy Registrars also provide a receipt that serves as proof of registration and they personally deliver applications to the Office of the Voter Registrar within 5 days of completion.
“It is easy to register to vote and to help others register at the same time. By becoming a volunteer, you can help Travis County reach our goal of registering 650,000 voters by September 30,” said Travis County Tax Assessor-Collector and Voter Registrar, Tina Morton. “Joining our team of volunteers is easy and only requires attending a one hour training session.”
From the beginning of the May 30th voter registration initiative, to the end of July, our volunteers have helped us register 12,467 new voters in Travis County. Volunteer Deputy Registrars come from all walks of life. They regularly promote voter registration at festivals, job fairs, concerts, community events and within their own social networks.
How can you become a Volunteer Deputy Registrar (VDR)? Volunteers must be 18 years or older and attend a one-hour training session where they learn about the qualifications to become a VDR and how to register voters. Regularly scheduled training is held on the first Tuesday of each month. To request a training session for your organization, call (512) 854-9473.
The next training sessions will be held on Tuesday, September 4th at 10:30 am, 12:30 pm and 6:30 pm at the Travis County Tax Office located at 5501 Airport Boulevard, Austin, TX 78751.
