Texas Water Development Board - Chief of Staff

Patrick J. Lopez

Patrick Lopez is a licensed attorney who previously worked in the Texas Senate and the Texas Comptroller’s Office. He currently serves as chief of staff to the chairwoman of the Texas Water Development Board. Through these positions, he gained valuable experience in tax policy and fiscal matters, specifically public finance and municipal bonds. Lopez has also worked as an elementary school teacher and coached middle school football, basketball, and track.

As Travis County continues its rapid growth, it is imperative that our community charts a course that is fiscally responsible and promotes quality of life and economic opportunity for those who are at risk of getting left behind. As a resident of unincorporated Travis County, Lopez aims to ensure that the unique challenges facing many residents of Precinct 4 remain at the forefront of the policy discussion.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education degrees from the University of Notre Dame, in addition to a Juris Doctor and Master of Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Austin.

TAX RATE: TRAVIS COUNTY ADOPTED A TAX RATE THAT WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR’S TAX RATE. THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 3.5 PERCENT AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A $100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATELY $9.12.
